“What is the difference between airbrush make-up and conventional make-up?”

This is a question I get asked all of the time. How do you choose the best type of base for you and what are the differences between the two? It is important to choose the correct one for you. Everyone is different and make-up can be a very personal thing; so it’s important that when having your make-up done for your occasion, wedding etc. you choose a make-up style and make-up artist that resembles you and what you are used to. You want to still look like yourself, just a polished version… ;)

Conventional Make-Up

This is just the professional name for your regular, everyday make-up. This make-up comes in a few different forms. From liquids and creams to pressed powders etc. The liquids and creams can be applied in a few different ways. For most people it can be applied using your fingertips, but for the professionals and for others it is applied using brushes and sponges. The make-up can be painted onto the s...

The last time I posted a blog was a month ago. I was in the process of sorting through my make-up kit to take abroad with me for my cousins wedding. A LOT has happened since then! I haven't only been to Florida once, but twice in the past 3 weeks. I have now become a bit of a natural when it comes to packing make-up to take over seas. I simply separate my liquids and glosses from my powders and solids, putting the liquids in my hold luggage and my powders etc into my hand luggage (that way they don't crack or break because I am responsible for them).

Going through the security section of the airport with my hand luggage in tow, containing my make-up, was very daunting the first time. I was on edge the entire time in case it turned out that I wasn't allowed to take any make-up etc through as hand luggage, meaning I would have to leave it all behind. The main bulk of my kit was in that suitcase so it was very important that I got it right! Thank god it was all fine! I was relieved to kn...

So in a matter of days I will be jetting off to Florida with my family. My cousin Ben Powell is marrying the lovely Helle Frederiksen next week and she has kindly asked me if I would do her make-up and hair for the very special day. I am very excited! It's a huge honour.

I have been slowly packing my case over the last few weeks and deciding what to take with me (referring to my endless lists that I've made since the trip was planned), when all of a sudden I had a panic about how I'm going to pack my professional make-up kit!?!? If any of you have ever seen it, you will know that it is rather hefty and heavy, to say the least! I didn't want to take up all of my baggage allowance with my make-up, as I had planned on taking some clothes with me too...lol!

I've come to the decision that I am going to pack as much of my kit into my hand luggage suitcase as possible. I am going to use that case as my 'kit bag' on the wedding day anyway, as it's easy to wheel about, so it made sen...

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

What a difference a year makes...

It's officially been a whole year since I decided to cut some strings and start my own business. It's been brilliant! There's been plenty of highs, a lot of lows, some quiet moments, but also a load of busy, happy moments.

For a first year of business it has gone better than I ever would have thought! Everyone told me that the first year is always the hardest. This time last year I was starting from scratch, with no bookings in my diary and only my tiny reputation and hope that everything would work out and be ok. I couldn't have done it without everyone's support and encouragement, so I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who's helped - you know who you are! Every recommendation, page like, share or comment goes such a long way! It really means the world to me.

I have also met some brilliant new people this year! Not just my lovely brides and clients, but also the other professionals I have met along the way - hairdressers,...

I've had a lovely evening tonight...! Last week a lady called Liz sent me an email on behalf of her daughter Emily, after coming across pictures of my SFX work online. She asked if it was possible to arrange a date to meet to talk about what I do. Emily is in her GCSE year in school and absolutely loves Special FX makeup. She wants to persue it as a career path once she has finished school so wanted to know how I got into it, where I trained and also just have a chit chat about makeup in general. I was happy to meet them both and honoured that they wanted to talk to me.

Emily and her mum travelled down from Llandeilo, just to meet me, so I wanted to help them as much as possible. I still feel new to all of this myself so to have someone interested in my work, the way I am with other amazing artists', is quite overwhelming. Of course i've been doing makeup for years now but only been 'going it alone' since the beginning of the year. I don't see myself as anyone...

I've always liked the South Wales Evening post and now I know why! I had a lovely message from Ruth yesterday morning, who was the lady that did the last article on me, asking if she could write a piece about the silicone mould I did for my friend's leg. Obviously I said yes, it's an honour to be asked... especially twice! Ruth did a brilliant write up about it and it had a great response so i'm very pleased. I've also found out today that it's going to be published in tomorrow's post (the actual newspaper) again, so I've given my dad a heads up to save his pennies for the morning, lol! After my dad buying 4 copies last time, my boyfriend also contacted the Evening Post themselves and had the actual print sent over to him which he printed and framed for my mum...! Good job he's away with work this time otherwise there'll be no space left on thier walls haha! It was such a lovely gesture though, as they are a massive support to me, and is something to be cherished. So everyone keep a lo...

Last week I received a call from a long term family friend who needed my help with something very personal. We've spoken about it briefly in the past, but hadn't actually sat down to discuss it properly. 30+ years ago she'd had a tumour removed from her leg which has since left her with a scar underneath her calf muscle and an indent in her leg that she's been trying to disguise for years. She told me that she's tried everything under the sun to try and hide it, from cotton wool and large plasters to the clear gel 'party feet' you put in your shoes if they are uncomfortable. She'll spend hours getting ready trying to disguise her leg before putting on a pair of tights, or eventually have to give in and wear yet another pair of trousers. All my lovely friend wanted was something that would cover the indent and give her calf its shape back.

Straight away after speaking to her I tried to think up the best solution in which I could help. The usual wax and latex that I use fo...

November 1, 2015

Well what a day I had yesterday! It was non stop from the moment I woke up, until the last person left last night. It started off at Helyn's wedding at the Oxwich Bay Hotel in the Gower. She was so calm and relaxed that it was a pleasure to do her make-up. I then had to rush back to prepare for an afternoon and evening of Halloween bookings. It all went really smoothly and I seemed to be running very early at one point because everyone arrived slightly earlier than their allocated time slots which was perfect! The day just seemed to fly by! My mum came over for 'a couple of hours' whilst I was working and ended up staying until the end. It was lovely having her around to chat to everyone and make them feel welcome whilst I got on with the job at hand. Also thank you to Mammy Lorey for making Halloween cupcakes. They went down a treat with everyone and I think they kept me going too!

Even though yesterday went so well, this Halloween and also the build up to it has been a massive learni...

October 30, 2015

Happy Halloween Eve! I hope you all have your costumes and make-up sorted for all the parties and nights out that you'll be going to tomorrow!? For me it is going to be a very busy day. I have a wedding at Oxwich Bay Hotel tomorrow morning and am then heading home for a full day's worth of Halloween make-ups starting at midday and finishing close to midnight. It's safe to say I will appreciate Sunday to catch up on my sleep, but I'm looking forward to it all the same. I'm even getting in the spirit by wearing this t-shirt all day... Lol! Just because I can't properly dress up doesn't mean I can't get into the spirit....!

I've even bought a 'Diva Light' to use for my make-ups tomorrow evening! Its basically a circle light that lights up to give the same brightness as daylight. It's perfect for taking photos through because it doesn't leave any horrible shadows on your faces and can also be used as an extra light for when the natural light goes... which seems to be getting earlier and ear...

If any of you have picked up a copy of today's Evening Post then hopefully you've noticed that there is an article about my work inside...! I was so excited this morning - I had a text off my dad pretty early saying that he'd just stopped at a shop on his was to work and bought 4 copies... So I quickly got out of bed, put my coat on over my pyjamas (I didn't want to waste time getting dressed, lol) and walked to the shop around the corner to get one. I am extremely pleased with the write up inside about me. The lovely Ruth from the Evening Post who i spoke to did a great job! I'm really humbled that she took time out to speak to me and was interested enough in my work to get in contact.

If you haven't read it yet, here's a few pictures of the article inside. Hopefully you can make it out...
